Brackets for Davit crane on wind turbine installation vessel

Brackets for Davit crane on wind turbine installation vessel

Calculation and documentation assignment

The requirements are enormous for the heavy-duty wind turbine installation vessels, which must be able to handle the job on the open sea in all kinds of weather.

The high demands certainly also apply to the Davit cranes on the ships. They are designed to lift single components with a maximum lift height of 70 meters and have a simple and maintenance-free operation. The cranes’ construction is robust, weather-resistant, and suitable for very heavy lifting. The crane is installed to open a service hatch, lift smaller burdens, and to lift up a service worker if he or she gets injured.

The customer was to weld a new crane bracket in a support leg for a Davit crane on an installation vessel, and in connection with the installation of the new bracket, the customer had to document that the bracket complies with applicable standards for lifting of small loads and with the possibility of person lifting.

New crane bracket for the supporting legs and compliance with standards
FRECON helped to carry out calculations and prepare the necessary documentation.
Through calculations in Ansys Workbench, Ansys DesignModeler, and Creo, we delivered a FE report that the customer could use for documentation to his customer in the wind turbine industry.

In the report it is shown that what is made and carried out on the ship complies with all applicable standards.
